Welcome to Le Colombier *** !

Dating back to 1614, Le Colombier has been listed among the most beautiful dovecotes in Haute-Normandie.

Its outstanding size - 10 m (33-feet) in diameter, 2,8ft thick walls, and 53-ft high- make it one of the biggest dovecotes in Normandy.

There is a remarkable draughtboard-like marquetry of 3000 cut blue-grey flint and white sandstone. This circular frieze includes 4 rosettes, as well as diamond-shaped forms hewn with a skill nowadays forgotten.

The Colombier was built with 60 000 pieces of 400 hundred year-old handmade orange bricks, named "bricks of St John". Remarkable rhombuses in black bricks bring on additional patterns to this exceptional historic dovecote.

You will be able to enjoy the entire property, comprising le Colombier as well as the Baker's Oven and the large tree-lined garden (1500 m˛;1800 sq yards) with all the necessary garden furniture (tables, deckchairs, parasols, BBQ) and private parking space.

FACILITIES

Le Colombier dispose de :

  • A 200m˛ 4-storey house (ground floor + 3 other floors) with period exposed beams and joists everywhere.

  • You access through a lovely short stone staircase to a vast splendid 50m˛ lounge- and dining room. An impressive 400 year-old chestnut pole supports the whole horizontal star-shaped structure built with old oak beams and joists.

  • 5 bedrooms, all with old beams and beautiful oak beamed ceilings, one 50m˛-bedroom on the 3rd floor with a magnificent roof structure ornamented with star-shaped open work.

  • 2 bathrooms : one on the 1st floor with a shower and another one on the 2nd floor with a bathtub. A towel-dryer and 2 W.C.s.

BEDROOMS

  • 3 bedrooms with a king-size double bed (160 x 200). Sleeps 6.

  • 2 bedrooms, one of which is in the "Baker's oven", each with two twin beds for a couple or children. Sleeps 4.

  • 1 bedroom with a standard bunk bed (90 x 200). Sleeps 2.

  • Optional : a king size convertible sofa (160 x 200). Sleeps 2.

  • A cot for a baby or toddler is also available.

The beds are equipped with slatted bed bases as well as with quality mattresses, duvets and pillows.

Electric convectors heat the rooms and each room is equipped with its own individual thermostat, so that each can be heated to suit.

Linen available to rent on request
It is possible to rent the bed linen (duvet and pillow cases, fitted bottom sheets) on request.

KITCHEN AMENITIES - HEATING

There is a beautiful well-fitted kitchen with a microwave oven, two fridges, a freezer, dish-washer, electric oven, an electric induction cooker, a coffee machine, a food processor and a double sink, deeper than standard models so that large dishes can easily be cleaned.

There is a large work surface to prepare meals and a specific water heater for the kitchen.

Radiant floor heating contributes both to the comfort and design of the place.

THE BAKER'S OVEN

Also part of the property is a converted genuine baker's oven. It is a lovely half-timbered cob oven covered with typical little Norman tiles. With charming country furnishing on the 2 floors, the baker's oven comprises a little dining room on the ground floor, and upstairs there is a lovely bedroom for a couple, en-suite with a bathroom (sink and WC) and overlooked by a roof structure ornamented with open work. A large window offers a view onto the garden and the apple trees.
